Third Annual Gratitude Concert
Giving thanks through creating music

Saturday, February 16, 2013
6:00 pm – 7:45 pm
Christ United Methodist Church
Southern Village
Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Cam painted "Lullaby for Ian" while listening to Gabriel Crist's piece by that name. This was part of her "dress rehearsal" before the Third Annual Gratitude Concert. What a gorgeous painting, Cam!

In addition to a wonderful collection of newly composed music by our Harmonia composers, we presented some very special offerings on this concert!

  • “From Day to Night” – a multi-media presentation created by Gabe Crist.  His inspiration was his novel-in-progress.  He wrote music for each scene, then picked paintings to illustrate his work.  The entire production was put together in a delightful presentation which was one of the highlights of this concert!
  • Painter Cam Cline on stage creating a spontaneous painting while we played.  The audience will never forget the experience of watching an artist turn music into colors and shapes, before their very eyes!
  • Tim Dyess on French horn playing the winning pieces from our recent Horn Fanfare contest – composers from around the world entered fanfares which were judged by the horn department of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill..

The wonderful painter Cam Cline joined us on stage for this entire concert.  The audience was mesmerized by her spontaneous paintings which emerged from the music she heard.

As preparation for the “painting new music” experience, she listened to two pieces by our composers in her own studio and created two masterpieces based on these pieces.  “Lullaby for Ian”, inspired by Gabe Crist’s piece,  and “Winter Forest”, inspired by Charles Higgins’s piece are now proudly displayed in the Harmonia studio.

Thank you, Cam, for being part of this great adventure!

In spite of snow, sleet, freezing rain and a generally glum day, more than sixty people braved the weather to attend our Third Annual Gratitude Concert!   We have much to be grateful for, as you can see by some of the pictures!  Special thanks to John Paul Middlesworth, for making the video of the concert and for extracting these pictures for our enjoyment!

Thanks to all the wonderful people who made this concert such a joyous occasion!  See you next time!
